The Place: Drury Inn and Suites in Burlington exit 140. It’s fairly new, less than 20 years old, and well appointed, about the size of the Marriot, maybe smaller IDK. Indoor outdoor pool. Good eating places are just at hand, Red Lobster is a walk across the parking lot.
The Date: May 31, – June 1. 2024 Why this day & date? May, the hotel was practically booked up. Late April and the last weekend in April is Easter, figured that to be a nonstarter. Earlier I was cognizant of February being the Muster month. March, is Cold Wars and at the time I gathered this information Cold Wars was a go in my estimation. As it is, the date chosen is the weekend after Memorial Day 2024. For you retired guys, maybe not a big deal, but for us working stiffs who have to manage and husband our vacation days, it’s a thing. Me, having a couple of weekends in a row, to give the world the middle finger, I’m OK with that. Lastly, it was a week-end I could still get a good rate before the summertime rates hit and if you don’t give them some data to work with it stops the conversation cold. Rates change from day to day. Don’t ask me, I fu—ing don’t know. AI maybe? Whatever.
The Rooms and what you get: Double Queens $180. Single Kings $175. I was conservative, I put in for 15 rooms. Included with the room, those who stay at the hotel will get a buffet breakfast and
they have a happy hour thing called “kickback” from 530-700. They’ll have pu pus, (that’s Hawaiian for hor doerves, I think that’s French) + 3 complimentary cocktails. That’s not a bad offer with beers running 6 bucks a pop these days at a ba. (Boston accent)
The Playing area: One room, carpeted, lighting excellent, ground floor. They had the room divided at the time, but I reckon, It could accommodate 5 or 6 standard 6×8 gaming tables. On this point, I’d have to nail that down better, but I was just shooting for the broad strokes. At the moment, the room would be north of 2K, but she’s working on the price and I’ll receive an estimate soon.”
